Scientific Notation Calculator
Convert numbers to scientific, engineering, and E-notation, and perform complex calculations in scientific notation with full precision.
Scientific Notation Converter
Provide a number below to get its scientific notation, E-notation, engineering notation, and real number format. Accepts standard numbers, E-notation (e.g., 2.3e11), or power notation (e.g., 3.5x10^-12).
Scientific Notation Expression Calculator
Perform arithmetic operations on two numbers expressed in scientific notation.
How To Use the Scientific Notation Calculator
Use the Converter tab to quickly express any real or scientific input into standard scientific notation, engineering notation, E-notation, and decimal formats. Switch to the Calculator tab to carry out basic operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Exponents, and Square Roots) between two scientific values.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Scientific notation is a method of writing very large or small numbers conveniently in the form b × 10n, where b (the significand) is a number between 1 and 10, and n is an integer exponent.
Engineering notation is similar to scientific notation, but the exponent n is always restricted to multiples of 3 (e.g., -6, -3, 0, 3, 6, 9) to align with standard SI prefixes such as kilo-, mega-, and giga-.
E-notation replaces "× 10n" with the letter "E" or "e". For example, 3.45 × 107 is written as 3.45E7 or 3.45e7.
